Amazon: Amazon is one of the most popular online marketplaces used by both individual as well as businesses, and the site is available in many different countries and languages. Amazon Kindle is one of its most popular products as well as the Amazon app store. Lastly, Amazon offers software and infrastructure solutions for business and individuals. Amazon was begun in 1994 in Seattle, Washington, United States, by Jeff Bezos, and was initially little more than an online bookstore. From those humble beginnings, Amazon has become the largest online eCommerce retailer, and one of the most powerful brands in the world.

Not only has it expanded its offerings of goods and services, but it also participates in the streaming video marketplace, the cloud computing marketplace, and most recently Amazon has entered into banking. Amazon has storefront website for over a dozen different countries, and ships to nearly every country in the world. It also hosts the retail websites of brands such as Sears Canada, Marks & Spencer, Lacoste and others. It also owns over 40 subsidiary brands such as Zappos, Diapers, Goodreads, IMDb, and many more.

Amazon is the biggest Internet based retailer in the world by total sales and market capitalization.  Amazon started as an online bookstore, later expanding to sell DVDs, Blu-rays, CDs, video downloads/streaming, MP3 downloads/streaming, audio-book downloads/streaming, software, video games, electronics, apparel, furniture, food, toys and jewelry. The company also delivers consumer electronics – notably, Amazon Kindle e-readers, Fire tablets, and Fire TV – and is the world's biggest supplier of cloud infrastructure services. Amazon also sells certain low-end product like USB cables under its in-house brand Amazon Basics.

Amazon has different retail websites for the United States, the United Kingdom and Ireland, France, Canada, Germany, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Australia, Brazil, Japan, China, India and Mexico. Amazon also offers international shipping to certain different countries for some of its products. In 2016, Dutch and Polish language versions of the German Amazon web site were launched. There are a number of reasons customers have increased their spending on Amazon, including excellent customer service, competitive prices, fast shipping, wide selection, and effective digital marketing.

Amazon Headquarters: Amazon's international headquarters are in 14 buildings in Seattle's South Lake Union neighborhood, developed primarily by Vulcan, Inc. from 2008 onward. The first 11 buildings were gained from Vulcan in 2012 at a cost of $1.16 billion. The company was previously headquartered in rented space within the Pacific Medical Center, located in the city's Beacon Hill neighborhood, from 1998 to 2011.

Amazon is presently building a new three-tower complex in Seattle's Denny Triangle neighborhood to serve as its new headquarters. The plan, designed by NBBJ and named "Rufus 2.0" after a dog who was a part of the company in its early days, was approved by the city of Seattle in 2012 and construction started the year after. The first of the towers, nicknamed Doppler, opened on 14 December, 2015.

The European headquarters are in Luxembourg's capital, Luxembourg City. On November 13, 2018, Amazon announced they would divide their planned HQ2 between New York City and Northern Virginia. On February 14, 2019, Amazon announced they canceled their plan for the HQ2 location in New York City. Amazon is also in the process of building a retail hub of operations center in Nashville, Tennessee.

Amazon Prime: In 2005, Amazon declared the creation of Amazon Prime, a membership offering free two-day shipping within the contiguous United States on all eligible purchases for a flat annual fee of $79 (equivalent to $97 in 2016), as well as discounted one-day shipping rates. Amazon set up the program in Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom in 2007, in France in 2008, in Italy in 2011, in Canada in 2013 and in India on July 26, 2016.

Amazon Prime is a subscription service that gives members access to a variety of perks. Features include access to Amazon Prime Video, free 2-day shipping on Amazon purchases, access to exclusive deals on Amazon Prime Day, and a variety of other Amazon-specific services. Amazon has over 100 million members. Now, membership costs $119 per year or $12.99 per month. Amazon Prime is not available for customers who purchase products for the purpose of resale or use Amazon Prime to ship products to their customers or potential customers.

For many, the service is a no-brainer for the shipping perks alone, but there is a lot more to a Prime membership than free shipping and streaming services. For instance, Prime members who shop at Whole Foods save 10 percent on select Whole Foods purchases. In addition, Amazon recently announced that it will double down on Whole Foods discounts with new price cuts that will save shoppers an average of 20 percent on in-season produce, meat, seafood, and other products.

Prime members in select regions can pay an additional monthly membership fee to receive FREE shipping on all Amazon Fresh orders of $50 or more, or pay a flat delivery fee for each order they place under $50. Prime members in select regions can pay an additional monthly membership fee to receive FREE shipping on all Prime Pantry orders of $10 or more, or pay a flat shipping fee for each order they place under $10. Amazon accepts Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), Health Savings Accounts (HSA) (U.S. billing addresses only) for the purchase of FSA or HSA eligible items. SNAP EBT cards are accepted as payment methods for valid cards from participating states.

Amazon Currency Converter allows you to pay for qualifying purchases in your local currency. When you elect to pay with an eligible American Express, MasterCard or Visa credit or debit card, your order total will be listed in your local currency on the order summary page. When you use Amazon Currency Converter, Amazon will charge your credit or debit card in your local currency. In some cases, your bank or credit card company may assess additional fees, which may increase the overall cost of your purchase.

Amazon Pay: Amazon Pay lets you use the payment methods that you already use on Amazon to pay for goods and services on third-party websites wherever Amazon Pay is accepted. You can make secure purchases from third-party (i.e. non-Amazon) websites that accept Amazon Pay, without having to re-enter your payment information. Making a purchase using Amazon Pay costs you nothing.

Amazon Pay keeps your financial information private from sellers, and you are not required to disclose your financial information stored in your Amazon account when you make a purchase. If you already have an Amazon account, Amazon Pay is automatically activated when you accept the Amazon Pay User Agreement and make your first payment on any third-party website that accepts Amazon Pay. You can use any of the credit cards associated with your Amazon account right away.

If you have a balance in your Amazon Payments account, you can use it to make purchases on Amazon. You will need an active Amazon Payments account with an available balance. Certain items are not eligible for purchase via your Amazon Payments balance. An Amazon Payments balance can be used for most purchases on Amazon, but it cannot be used to order the following; Digital downloads, Subscribe & Save, Amazon Prime, Gift Cards, and Items offered by Amazon Marketplace sellers.

Amazon Sales Tax: A sales tax is a consumption tax imposed by the government on the sale of goods and services. Several U.S. states have passed or are considering "Amazon Tax" laws designed to compel Amazon to gather state and local sales and use taxes from customers. Sales taxes in the United States are imposed by state and local governments, not at the Federal level. In most countries where Amazon operates, a sales tax or value added tax is uniform throughout the country, and Amazon is obliged to gather it from all customers.

Amazon originally collected Sales Tax only from a few states, but now collects sales taxes from customers in the following 33 states and the District of Columbia – Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

If an item is subject to sales tax in the state to which the order is shipped, tax is generally calculated on the total selling price of each individual item. In accordance with state tax laws, the total selling price of an item will usually include item-level shipping and handling charges, item-level discounts, gift-wrap charges, and an allocation of order-level shipping and handling charges and order-level discounts.

The amount of tax charged on your order will rely on many factors including Identity of the seller, type of item purchased, and destination of the shipment. Factors will change between the time you place an order and the time of credit card charge authorization, which could influence the calculation of sales taxes. The amount appearing on your order as Estimated Tax may vary from the sales taxes ultimately charged.

Amazon Shipping: Amazon ships its merchandise to the United States, Canada, and other countries worldwide. In the US, there are three modes of shipment available; Standard, Two-Day and One-Day shipment. For Standard shipment, it generally takes 3 to 5 days for the product to arrive at its destination. Two-Day shipment is a bit faster and takes only 2 business days for the item to be delivered to the customer. One-Day shipment, which takes only 1 business day for the item to arrive at its destination, is more costly than the two methods already given.

In many areas Saturday and Sunday delivery may be available. If weekend delivery is available to your destination, it will be specified on the product page and/or during checkout. Delivery estimates for FREE Prime Two-Day shipments to destinations that do not have weekend delivery are based on two business day transit times, not including Saturday or Sunday. Shipping rates depend on the selected shipping speed and weight/size of the items. The total shipping and handling cost will be listed under Order Summary.

Amazon offers guaranteed delivery on certain fast delivery speeds and select products. When guaranteed delivery is available on an order, it will be clearly marked on the checkout page with an associated delivery date and fee (if applicable). If Amazon provide a guaranteed delivery date and a delivery attempt is not made by this date, Amazon will provide a refund of any shipping fees associated with that order.

Every time you place an order via the Shopping Cart that contains more than one delivery date, you can choose for your order to be shipped in the fewest possible packages or for your order to be shipped as soon as each item it becomes available. You can change your shipping preferences in Your Account at any time after placing your order as long as the order has not entered the shipping process yet.

Amazon Free Shipping:  Free Shipping by Amazon is available 365 days a year. All you have to do is look for “FREE Shipping” next to the item price, and add at least $25 of eligible items to your cart. Select “FREE Shipping” at checkout, and your order will arrive in 5-8 business days. Or, choose from millions of items available with free shipping from 3rd party sellers. Order $25 or more to qualify for FREE Shipping on eligible items. You receive free shipping if your order includes at least $25 of eligible items.

Any item with "FREE Shipping" messaging on the product detail page that is fulfilled and shipped by Amazon is eligible and contributes to your Free Shipping order minimum. You can get unlimited FREE Two-Day Shipping on eligible items with Amazon Prime. No minimum spend is required to qualify. Canceling items, combining orders, or changing your shipping address, speed, or preference might affect your order's free shipping eligibility. You may find geographic shipping restrictions apply to particular products. Some items shipped to Alaska and Hawaii may not be eligible for free shipping.

Amazon Prime members shipping to select metro areas across the U.S. can choose to receive FREE Same-Day Delivery on a broad selection of items. Same-Day Delivery is available seven days a week most days of the year, with limited availability on certain holidays and high-volume shopping days including Black Friday and Prime Day. Same-Day delivery will not be available on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Please note that only residential addresses are eligible for Same Day Delivery. Commercial addresses, P.O. Boxes, APO, FPO, and DPO addresses are not eligible. You can also order qualifying items over $35 via 1-Click on the product detail page. Just select Today Free and then click Buy now with 1-Click. In some cases, choosing a higher quantity for an item may make it ineligible for Same-Day Delivery, because multiple units may not be available locally. In this case, the option to choose Same-Day shipping will disappear, and normal Prime shipping options will display.

Amazon Large Items Shipping:  Amazon offers a number of large and over sized items that require special handling. Items too big to ship to a P.O. Box or Amazon Hub Locker must be shipped to a street address. Large items sold or fulfilled by Amazon ship with one of Amazon specialty carriers. Because of this, large items do not qualify for Prime FREE Two-Day Shipping. However, Large Item Shipping is free of charge. Large items eligible for Scheduled Delivery will display "Scheduled Delivery" and an available delivery date on the detail page.

With a Scheduled Delivery order, you will be able to choose a different delivery date and time that works best for you during checkout. If a first available delivery date is not displayed, then you are either in an area that does not support pre-scheduling from the website or the item is in a pre-order state. In these cases, the carrier will contact you by phone to arrange a date and time for delivery. An adult signature is required for large items. If an adult is not home at the time of delivery, the product will be taken away by the carrier and you will need to reschedule your delivery.

Amazon International Shipping: Amazon ships products internationally with Amazon Global. Amazon Global ships over 45 million items to over 100 countries and regions outside the U.S. Available product lines, shipping rates and fees differ depending on the delivery address for your order. The majority of products in Amazon's product catalog can be shipped to over 100 Countries. If you set your shipping destination as your default shipping address, you will see items that are eligible to ship to that location in your search results.

Changing your default shipping address will change your search results. When ordering from Amazon, you are responsible for assuring the product can be lawfully imported to the destination country. The recipient is the importer of record and should comply with all laws and regulations of the destination country. Orders shipped outside of the United States might be subject to import taxes, customs duties and fees levied by the destination country.

The recipient of an International Shipment might be subject to such import taxes, customs duties and fees, which are levied once a shipment reaches the recipient's country. Additional charges for customs clearance must be fulfilled by the recipient; Amazon has no control over these charges, nor will Amazon predict what they will be. Customs policies vary widely from country to country; you must contact your local customs office for more information. When customs clearance procedures are required, it will cause delays beyond their original delivery estimates.

Amazon Return Policy:  Amazon and most sellers on Amazon offer returns for items within 30 days of receipt of shipment. Items shipped from Amazon, including Amazon Warehouse, can be returned within 30 days of receipt of shipment in most cases. Some products have different policies or requirements associated with them. Certified Refurbished items sold by Amazon Warehouse can be returned within 90 days of receipt of shipment. If you received a damaged or defective item, Amazon will ship you a replacement of the exact item. If you would like to exchange a product for another, you can exchange for a different size or color or for a product in your Cart.

You can Return many items sold on Amazon. When you return an item, you may see different return options depending on the seller, item, or reason for return. When you return an item, your refund and how your refund is issued may differ based on the condition of the item, how long you have had the item and how the item was purchased. You can send an item for repair. Shipping to the repair center is free. Return shipping is free if your item is covered under the warranty. If the defect is covered by the manufacturer warranty, the item will be repaired free of charge and returned to you. Repairs usually take up to 14 business days (including delivery time), but may take slightly longer. Amazon Reviews: You can submit written or video reviews for items listed on Amazon. Amazon encourage you to share your opinions, both favorable and unfavorable. Amazon has worked over the years to make their millions of customer reviews as useful as possible. Amazon has added features like Amazon Verified Purchase, helpful votes, and review comments in the pursuit of a system that’s open and flexible and yet structured and helpful for anyone who wants to learn more from other customers about anything Amazon sells.

Customer Reviews are meant to give customers genuine product feedback from fellow shoppers. Amazon goal is to capture all the energy and enthusiasm (both favorable and critical) that customers have about a product while avoiding use of reviews to outright advertise, promote and especially mislead. Amazon has a zero tolerance policy for any review designed to mislead or manipulate customers. Customer Reviews help customers learn more about the product or genre, hear the reasons behind your star rating, and ultimately decide if this is the right product for them or not.

An "Amazon Verified Purchase" review means Amazon has verified that the person writing the review purchased the product at Amazon and did not receive the product at a deep discount. Reviews that are not marked "Amazon Verified Purchase" are valuable as well, but Amazon either can not confirm that the product was purchased at Amazon or the customer did not pay a price available to most Amazon shoppers.

Amazon permits users to submit reviews to the web page of each product. Reviewers must rate the product on a rating scale from 1 to 5 stars. Amazon offers a badging option for reviewers which indicate the real name of the reviewer (based on confirmation of a credit card account) or which indicate that the reviewer is one of the top reviewers by popularity. Customers might comment or vote on the reviews, indicating whether they found a review helpful to them. If a review is given enough "helpful" hits, it shows on the front page of the product. In 2010, Amazon was reported as being the biggest single source of Internet consumer reviews.
